The new year has put me in the mood for new music! Over the last few weeks, I have been researching like crazy to find some new tunes, especially for all of you ladies out there. I came across a new group (at least to me) that I absolutely love! They are Covenant Worship based out of Covenant Church in Texas. Their music is energy filled, their lyrics are sound, and I love their heart for songwriting.
"Worship is the sound our life makes. So it’s important as we prepare for a project like this that we are careful to say the right things. The songwriting process for this album was bathed in prayer, and the vocal arrangements were designed to make it easy for people to sing along. We really do want the whole world to sing. Not because we’re trying to write hit songs or be the next big thing, but because we know that if we can get the world to sing along, we can change the culture."
Covenant Worship's latest live album, Take Heart, which was recorded last fall at Covenant Church's annual worship arts conference and was produced by GRAMMY Award winner Israel Houghton, celebrates the greatness of God, drawing its inspiration from Jesus' words in John 16:33, "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Joshua DuFrene, who serves as one of the worship leaders for Covenant Worship and co-wrote many of the songs on the album, comments, "My greatest desire for this project is that it would bring hope and encouragement to everyone that hears it. One of the things we were very intentional about during the writing process for this record was making sure we had the name of Jesus in our lyrics. There is something unexplainable that happens when we sing His name together. The atmosphere changes… I want people to play these songs and experience the hope, freedom, healing, and victory that comes when we lift up the name above every name, the matchless name of Jesus."
The album's title track, "Take Heart" encourages worshippers to trust in the might and power of our Savior, reminding us that the One who has overcome is always on our side. "Take heart, the Light has come. Take heart. Our God is for us. We stand in the Savior's love, the only love that will last forever." This female-led song is upbeat and full of energy... a great song to start off your set-list.
